Pressure Injury Imposters

December 09, 2022, 01:45 PM – 02:45 PM EST(-05:00)
Pamela Scarborough, PT, DPT, CWS, FAAWC
Skin disruption may look like a pressure Injury, but is it? Ensure you and your team are correctly identifying tissue damage that mimics pressure injuries but is NOT of pressure etiology. Accurate identification of skin disruptions is required for appropriate care planning, quality review, and support of the legal team when needed. This presentation will describe etiologies that may be mistaken for pressure damage, including chronic tissue injury (CTI), Kennedy Terminal Ulcer (KTU)/skin failure, moisture-associated skin damage (MASD), deep tissue pressure injury (DTPI), COVID Skin manifestations and others. Attend this program to enhance your differential recognition and diagnosis skills for skin disruptions that may be mistaken for pressure injuries but are NOT related to pressure forces.

Objectives:

  1. Identify etiologies that look like but are not related to pressure forces.
  2. Describe the proposed etiology and appearance of chronic tissue injury. (CTI).

October 22, 2022, 11:15 AM – 12:15 PM EDT(-04:00)
Jose Ramirez-Garcialuna, MD, MSc, PhD with Bob Bartlett, MD
Numerous areas of medicine benefit from advanced imaging such as CT, MRI, Ultrasound, PET Scans, etc.  Regrettable the only imaging available for wound care has been confined to simple digital pictures. However, wound care is now entering the era of advanced physiologic imaging. Using the principles of spectroscopy aided by modern graphic processors health care providers now have an array of imaging modalities providing bedside assessments.

This exciting session will provide a concise review of the field of machine learning and multispectral imaging – how it is done and the implications for practice. Case studies will illustrate how this imaging provides immediate insights at the point of care.”
