My goal in this presentation, as it already was over many years in the past, is to show health experts who work in the field of custom foot orthotics, new ways of how they can take care of their patients’/customers’ needs by taking advantage of modern technical solutions. I also want to take away my audience’s fears and show that new digitized work processes do not necessarily mean that you have to be a professional in dealing with computers.

Bridging the Gap – Certified Pedorthists and Physical Therapists Working Together
November 04, 2022, 03:45 PM – 04:45 PM EDT(-04:00)
April Wilson, BS, CMPTA, CKTP, CCI
Many of us who are certified pedorthists have a difficult time reaching out to Physical Therapists, gaining their trust and acceptance, and/or developing working relationships with them. It may be they are unaware of the services we offer. It may be they don’t know of our expertise in shoe selection and fitting. It may be that we don’t know what we need to say.
In this session, the presenters will discuss the training and education for Physical Therapists and C.Peds, their respective scopes of practice and the areas where we can help each other. Ms. Wilson will give some insight into the mindset of therapists so that we, the pedorthic community, can understand what they need to hear from us and what they would like us to do for them and their patients. By developing some principles of understanding with other disciplines, together we can help the patients have better outcomes.

Increasingly podiatrists would rather refer patients out for diabetic footwear than fit shoes themselves. Providing Remote Patient Monitoring together with diabetic shoe fitting offers DPMs a way to enhance practice revenue while significantly reducing the chance of ulceration. RPM makes it possible for patients and physicians to be alerted if an impending ulcer is detected. Gain an understanding of how pedorthists can effectively and profitably work with podiatrists by embracing this new approach to preventative care.
