I’ve always been a high heels girl. Studying fashion in the city I wore heels every day and literally would be running in them to catch the train, get to class, meetings, etc. Ironically, I ended up working for an awesome comfort brand and recently found out I have plantar fasciitis ( experiencing heel pain), and now, I value and appreciate my Jambu shoes more than ever.

Remote Patient Monitoring features technology that reports plantar pressure and the temperature of the feet, of patients at risk for diabetic ulceration. Also by checking wearing compliance and number of steps taken, it can help improve the success of therapeutic shoes. While it is payable by Medicare only to physicians and offers better reimbursement than is earned by fitting shoes, Pedorthists can benefit by making their referring physicians aware of this new benefit and how well it compliments their shoe prescriptions.
Learning Objectives:
1. Understanding the technology of Remote Patient Monitoring
2. Understanding the benefits of Remote Patient Monitoring
3. How Remote Patient Monitoring can help your business

The presentation will review the role of impact forces in injury and will make the case that it has often previously been misunderstood. Despite being one of the most commonly used explanations for lower-limb injuries, impact forces are not clearly or directly correlated with injury in the literature. This presentation will review some of the seminal research on the topic, while also touching on other factors that may have more direct link to injuries.
Learning Objectives:
1. Understanding the role impact forces place in injuries
2. Identify other factors more directly linked with injuries
3. How shoes and foot orthoses can work to reduce injury risk

The pressure plate is the second most important device, the Brannock measuring device being the first in the pedorthic world. Whether in a retail or clinical setting, it is essential in helping to evaluate the plantar surface pressure of the feet and helping to find the right over the counter orthosis for evaluating for a custom made device. The session will go into some history of the pressure plate systems and how to use a digital pressure plate system for evaluation of the feet and of the pressure being changed by any orthotic device either OTC or custom being considered.
Learning Objectives:
1. Understand how the digital pressure plate evolved
2. Learn how to use a digital pressure plate
3. Learn to evaluate the patient’s scan and find appropriate orthoses.

How Understanding Fascia Can Help Your Patients
November 06, 2021, 01:50 PM – 02:40 PM EDT(-04:00)
Sue Fetzner, BS, MS, LPed/CPed
Until recently, fascia has received little attention in the medical, sports science, and movement world despite its major role in every single move you make. Scientists have discovered fascia as the “new organ”. Fascia is known to be a system of one continuous network of connective tissue and is one of the richest sensory organs in our body, embedded in nerve endings and mechanoreceptors. Discover fascia lines, or myofascial meridians, that lie “beyond the foot”. These lines of tension provide pathways to navigate injuries, improve posture and health issues. They dictate movement and transfer of energy throughout the entire body. Many of the fascia lines include the feet. Understanding fascia lines will help you see the body’s interconnectedness, guide clinical choices, and promote a “whole body” approach to movement and health.
Learning Objectives:
1. The importance of understanding fascia
2. How focusing on fascia can benefit your patients
3. Understanding fascia lines
